DISCOURS-PROGRAMME DE LA CONFÉRENCIÈRE D’HONNEUR – Kim Katrin Milan

Kim est une dynamique animatrice communautaire et championne de l’égalité et de l’inclusion. À titre d’écrivaine, de consultante et d’éducatrice, elle aide les gens à établir des liens entre eux, en particulier avec ceux qui, en apparence, peuvent sembler assez différents de nous.

Son approche intersectionnelle en matière de droits de la personne recadre la règle d’or : plutôt que de traiter les autres comme nous voudrions être traités, Kim préconise de traiter les autres comme ils voudraient être traités. Kim donne aux gens des assises solides pour comprendre l’expérience des autres et agir en tant qu’alliés.

Oratrice passionnée, Kim établit des liens entre le contexte historique, l’analyse statistique et les questions d’actualité pour éveiller la curiosité et l’empathie de son auditoire. De par son engagement et son approche inspirée en vue de trouver des solutions, elle propose d’apporter des changements d’envergure en mettant l’accent sur des gestes et choix, en soi petits, mais importants.

Samiya is a Health Promotion Consultant with Public Health Ontario. Samiya has 12 years’ experience in program development, management and evaluation working within non-profit, corporate and government sectors. Samiya’s practice is grounded in challenging multiple and intersecting forms of oppression; understanding marginalization in knowledge production, research and practice; and building equitable relationships.

Kim is a Health Promotion Consultant with Public Health Ontario. Kim has over 20 years of experience facilitating multidisciplinary partnerships to create healthy, sustainable communities. Andrea has an extensive background in physical activity and health promotion and has worked in local recreation centres and public health units as well as provincial NGOs and agencies. Andrea is passionate about community participation, partnership engagement and health equity. Andrea is an active blogger on HC Link’s website and is known for her active icebreakers and her humourous facilitation style.

Youth Advocacy Training Institute (YATI) – The Lung Association

Sarah has spent the last 10+ years working with youth in education settings and in Health Promotion and has been part of the YATI team for 7 years. She is passionate about the work that YATI does and the importance of empowering young people to be advocates for their own health. She holds a Master of Science from the University of Manchester, England and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario.

Angela is the Inclusion Manager for ONESTEP and has over 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector and organized labour. She is Ojibway from the Saugeen First Nation, Beaver Clan. Angela is an experienced and skilled facilitator with a passion for equity, diversity and inclusion.

Patrick a travaillé pendant plus de 15 ans à l’échelle internationale, notamment dans les domaines de la santé communautaire, la promotion de la santé, la gestion et la planification des services de santé, le renforcement des capacités organisationnelles et des partenariats. Ici au Canada, il s’intéresse à la planification des services de santé en français, à l’intégration des francophones vivant en situation minoritaire tout en proposant des approches innovantes et participatives. Patrick est détenteur de 2 maitrises : l’une en santé publique et l’autre en développement communautaire.

Julia is a health promoter, adult educator and a researcher who is passionate about health equity and justice. She is a PhD Candidate in the Environmental Studies Program at York University, studying non-profit sector and community action in urban environments. Her research, in particular focuses on the issues of equity in the evaluation of community-based projects and governance issues in the non-profit community sector.

Jason is a stay at home dad. He works at a grassroots level with a multitude of organizational partners to create better community. His involvement runs through the following initiatives in Peterborough and area: Basic Income Advocacy, Nourish Project (Growing, Cooking, Eating & Advocacy), Active Neighbourhoods Canada, CFICE (Community First: Impacts of Community Engagement), Art Hive Peterborough, Trent Radio, You, Your Community, Your Neighbourhood.

Kim is a community planning and process facilitation consultant with over 20 years of experience in multi-sector partnership and network development, inter-sectoral collaboration, program planning and evaluation, community development and policy development. In addition to her work as a planner with public health units and community health centres, Kim was the Sr. Consultant for Planning and Community Engagement with the Waterloo Wellington LHIN. Currently, Kim is a community consultant for Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition and HC Link.

Gillian partage des approches créatives et pratiques pour aider les groupes à développer de meilleurs plans, des partenariats renforcés et des évaluations pertinentes, afin d'améliorer l'inclusion, l’impact et la portée de leurs collaborations. Gillian a travaillé à l’échelle des quartiers avec un centre de santé communautaire, partout dans la province avec le Réseau ontarien de l’entraide ainsi que dans plusieurs projets d’éducation de pairs et de collaboration pour des communautés en santé. Gillian est titulaire d’une maîtrise mettant l’accent sur la mobilisation à base communautaire pour l’environnement et le changement social.

Nicole Meawasige @TheOFIFC ‏
Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres 

Nicole is an Anishinawbe Kwe from Serpent River First Nation located near Elliot Lake. She was born in Toronto and raised both on and off reserve. Nicole has worked at the OFIFC since 2008 and provides training in suicide intervention, Kanawayhitowin and the Aboriginal Community Development College certificate courses offered by the OFIFC. Nicole’s education background is in Early Childhood Education and Social Service Work. During her studies, Nicole was also a strong advocate within the Aboriginal community in Toronto by assisting with community sports, events and functions.

Sara Mohammed 

Sara Mohammed is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, coach and consultant, with 10 years of experience in health equity as a researcher and community developer. Her education includes a B.Sc. in Psychology (with Honours) and a Masters degree in Environmental Studies, specializing in social & environmental determinants of health and arts-based healing. As an advocate for inclusion and equity, Sara has recently worked on numerous provincially and federally-funded projects cultivating inclusive and collaborative leadership.

Anu Radha Verma (BA, MES) has lived and worked in both Canada and India in the areas of gender, race, sexuality, health, the environment, violence against women, (im)migration, anti-poverty and more. Among her current commitments, Anu Radha is the Inclusive Leadership Project Coordinator at the Association of Ontario Health Centres (AOHC), the project is a collaboration of DiverseCity onBoard, the AOHC and Health Nexus.

Patricia’s career has spanned over 30 years in the field of addictions - as Addiction Counselor at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Program Coordinator for Women’s Own Withdrawal Management Unit at Toronto Hospital, and Health Educator for the Substance Abuse Prevention Program at York Region Health Services. In 2007 she opened PSJ Consulting, which strives to provide interested individuals with a better understanding of substance use and the implications for our society. She is also a consultant with HC Link and Parent Action on Drugs.
